An exceptionally rare Rozenburg Den Haag eggshell porcelain tea set, Sam Schellink, March 1899. This unique tea set consists of an octagonal tea tray, a teapot and sugar bowl with plumed lid, a milk jug and two cups. It is one of the first eggshell porcelain tea sets that Rozenburg made, when they started production of the later world-famous eggshell porcelain on March 3, 1899. To be precise, this tea set, with work order number 407, was made by master painter Samuel Schellink and apprentice Cornelis Muylwijk, painted on March 31, 1899. It was the third set to be painted and intended for presentation at the World Exhibition in Paris that would start the following year, in April 1900. The tea set consists of: # tea tray model 8p; 29 x 32½cm # teapot model 35p; 18 x 19cm (bottom 11 x 11cm) # milk jug model 36p; 10½ x 12cm (bottom 9 x 9cm) # two cups model 38p; 5 x 9cm (bottom 7½cm in diameter) # sugar bowl model 37p; 12½ x 12cm (bottom 9 x 9cm) All pieces marked with the factory stamp, year mark, work order number 407 and painters’ monogram.
