Joosstens, Martin (1847-1926)

Rare Art Nouveau mirror by the firm M. Joos(s)tens. The mirror is made of so-called pâte with an engraved decoration of two peacocks and peacock feathers, gilded and colored.
Den Haag 1895-1900
Dimensions: 110 x 67 cm.
Up until now the only thing known about Joosstens is that he was a frame maker, gilder and a restorer of paintings in The Hague. But best and most known for the execution of mirrors designed by Jan Toorop (1858-1928). The Joosstens mirror is executed in so called incrusted pâte and has a symbolic, and gilded, decoration of peacocks.
